Day of the Dead 2008

Okay, so I know it's March of 2009 but I have so many awesome pics from 2008 that I have yet to share and I'm starting with these! I was a vendor at the 2008 Dia de los Muertos events at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and Self Help Graphics and Art. My good friend, artist Ozzie Carmona and I shared a space at both events and boy, did we have fun! I crafted glittery skull earrings and fused glass rings and pendants with ghostly, deadly skulls just for these events...see if you can handle it;)

New Headquarters for Mucha Muchacha

Before
After

My new studio! Here it is, the before and after. I lifted the yucky vinyl tiles and sealed the original concrete floors. I decided on this yummy turquoise color for the walls and I'm really happy with the way the color came out. My husband was sweet enough to replace the windows for me. Next to the bathroom (not pictured) I even have a good sized closet area to store all my show supplies like tables, canopy, etc. I can't even begin to tell you how stoked I am to have this totally separate area for all of my crafty needs! Now I just need to figure some spaces along the walls for more art and my Blythe dolls:)

The Urban Craft Center

I'm finally just about finished renovating my new studio in East Los Angeles...I'll be sharing pics soon:) I feel so lucky to have a space dedicated to crafting since space can be a rare thing in a city. We crafters need room to spread out and get it done! If you're lacking in the space department, maybe The Urban Craft Center can help you. From the U.C.C. website: "The Urban Craft Center is communal creative space, a gathering spot for crafty types of all sorts, with the tools and the space to facilitate your creative process. Our space is bright and lofty, with lots of tables and seating, and with different working areas to choose from. Lockers are also available for storing your projects and personal materials. Come in and check out the arty vibe. Take a moment to get inspired, either from the extensive craft book library, or from what’s being created by your fellow artists."

Hear that? The U.C.C. provides lockers to store supplies, access to a crafty library, a space to work, classes and you get to meet other crafties in the process. They also give the options of a monthly membership, paying by the hour or by the day.

Teflon Paint Trays?

Last November I bought a house in East L.A. and boy, have I done my share of painting! This weekend I was outside coloring my fence with concrete stain and was dreading having to throw away yet another paint tray liner. These can't be good for the environment and rinsing the trays is always such a messy drag. Well this morning I was taking a gander at a fave blog Shelterrific and saw THESE!

These can be found at Sears for around $7! I plan to paint some furniture for my new studio soon and you can bet I'll be picking up some of these. Just imagine the crafty possibilities!
